Ian and Don,
Thank you very much for your responses.  I will keep all of those things
in mind. part of my edumucation.  I have also subscribed myself to the tech
list, mostly to listen along and learn.
Part of my problems were my own fault, as I stupidly put periods in the
filenames which is not safe for a mac (not just IBMs)
as far as the server situation, it makes sense in a nutshell.  same
problem, just keeping the search up of solutions.  Does colocate mean
co-locate as in sharing server space?  the concept of wide fluctuations in
bandwidth makes sense to me as well.  And I assume a T1 line is some sort of
fat pipe?
as far as my thoughts on no more disc space was that after posting I
received that response.  That the article had been posted fine, but that
attachment upload had failed.  and it said no disc space.
Don's point that the site works most of the time is a good point, and i
apologize if I come across as an emotionally charged artist going bannanas.
I guess the happen chance timing of the disc space running out an me wanting
to post caused me an exagerated perception.  My enthusiasm to go out and
make stories shall not wane!  :  )
lastly, Don's remark that the internet is not stable shocked me more
than I thought it should.  When I worked in the Rare Books room of the NIU
Library, the acting Librarian was also head of the Regional Archives.  I
learned a lot, particularly in thinking about practicalities of archiving,
and the cultural aspects of what gets saved and why.  Tangibility of the
artifact is arecurring factor, he said.  Partially why I don't mind that I'm
still shooting film.  Also that I don't expect monitors will be limited to
72dpi forever. at some point it will be crazy high resolution.   Another
side point to this is that I've heard of a small company that specializes in
music that has not been popularly converted from Vinyl to CDs.
Lastly lastly, I love Lao Tzu, the ancient philosopher who said, " you
try to fit the world into boxes an squares, but what if you fit the world
into the world?"             g
