Congress Hotel strikers, upset at internet travel
agencies that place=20
unknowing customers into the only hotel in the state
that is on strike,=20
have turned their attention to Orbitz.com. The online
booking agency=20
features Congress on a list of Chicago hotel deals.
Among other hotels=20
listed on the Orbitz site is the Renaissance Hotel.
Orbitz=92s continued=20
listing of the Congress hotel, with no mention of the
strike, undermines=20
consumer confidence in Chicago hotels. Congress
strikers will lead a=20
delegation to ask Renaissance management to complain to
Orbitz.

Congress Hotel workers have been on strike since June
15, after hotel=20
management implemented a final contract offer that
includes a 7% wage=20
cut, unlimited right to subcontract and no raise for
four years. A=20
housekeeper at the Congress would earn $8.21 under
management=92s final=20
offer, as opposed to $10.00 in most Chicago hotels.
