Picolino Circus - Logan Square Neighborhood Association Photo 
Documentary Exchange

Over the past three years, The Picolino Circus Documentary Project 
has united the voices and photographs of fifteen at risk former 
street kids in Brazil.  In 1999, Photographer Tone Stockenstr=F6m 
started this collaborative project in Salvador, Brazil.  Tone 
Stockenstr=F6m's documentary work provides an inside view into the 
lives and stories of these children. These efforts were made possible 
by personal loans and donations. Since 2001 Tone has been working on 
a similar documentary project in Chicago with youth from the Logan 
Square Neighborhood Association. These two groups have been 
corresponding with each other via letters, email, and video for the 
past two years. In 2003 both groups, under Tone's direction will 
start an exchange project.  The Chicago youth will visit the Brazil 
project and in 2004 The Brazilian youth will travel to Chicago. This 
exchange will broaden the horizons of everyone working within the two 
documentary projects, by allowing each group to illustrate their own 
world and in the process, touch each other's lives and promote 
cultural understanding.
