Why no feature coverage on Benton Harbor???

While the Michigan IMC changes servers and thus is out of commision, the
next closest IMC sleeps.

The Benton Harbor uprisings should spark a detailed and more thorough
coverage by the IMC than other corporate media outlets. Yet there is not a
single feature story on the Chicago IMC, located in a city merely 100 miles
from Benton Harbor.

Why?

Looks like the NY Times is outdoing the IMC network on this one.

Some "alternative " media.

Michigan IMC 's server is up and running and stories are being currently
posted there.

Several stories on the Benton Harbor rebellion have already been posted to
the Chicago wire. (try reading them ) As for a feature story, you can post
your contributions here and at IMC Michigan at http://www.michiganimc.org/.

There is a difference between something being posted on a newswire and being
a feature. Michigan's IMC is still bugged with a lot of dead links and does
not feature Benton Harbor either. It's time people look at Benton Harbor and
Cincinatti (like Watts, Harlem, and Detroit) from a revolutionary
perspective to see what tactics affect the state. Two days of insurrection
and the michigan governor is begging for a meeting to discuss
institutionalized racism and police brutality. Try to get that from a march!
Let's have some serious discussion. You can't get this from sporadic
postings on a newswire. The features are moderated by IMC staff, so the
impetus is on them to give it a spotlight front and center. It is their
responsibility to do so. To the Benton Harbor freedom fighters, Don't give
in. Make us run to catch up with you!
Nyucksta has a point..however, .

the question remains.. what are you doing about it? What solidarity
activities are being organized locally? Anybody from Chicago going to Benton
Harbor this Tuesday? What articles - photos - video have you loaded to the
Chicago wire that might be included in a center panel feature? If you think
the coverage is inadequate, then do something about it. Participate in
getting the word out. Right here.

IMHO, Michigan IMC in all likelihood will publish a center panel feature on
Benton Harbor that will feature both background and updates. The Benton
Harbor story is far from over. And perhaps this underscores the need for an
IMC in Benton Harbor. Usually IMC collectives capacity to respond to
breaking events is determined by the number of volunteers and level of
participation in the collective and the life of the local IMC..including the
newswire. Defiencies in regional IMC communication also becomes all too
apparent when breaking events like this occur.

(Incidentally, Chicago IMC did post a center column story on the Cinncinati
rebellion..including info about what local Chicago activists were doing in
way of solidarity,- this occured as part of collaborative effort by regional
IMCs to make sure the story got covered.
