Karen Young of CMA has written a press release about We The Media which
would also serve as a suitable center panel for the We The Media. I'm
posting it below for your consideration. If anyone doesn't object, I'll
post a version of this to center panel today.

Thanks.

Local Independent Media Groups Organize 4th of July Celebration
called "We The Media"

Chicago Indymedia, Chicago Media Action, and Redline Radio sponsor and
organize "We the Media," a 4th of July celebration for makers and
supporters of independent media. The event takes place from 4pm to
midnight on Friday, July 4th, at buddy, 1542 N. Milwaukee St. in Chicago's
Wicker Park. (Buddy is near the Damen stop on the CTA Blue Line.)

The event is a unique combination of party and participatory multimedia
extravaganza. Buddy's second-floor indoor and rooftop spaces will see a
combination of eating and drinking, local bands, locally produced films,
and the creation of a mural. The "15 Minutes of Fame Soapbox" will give
all comers a 15-minute time slot to read from their magazines, plays, or
whatever they want to rant about. "Karaoke Against Racism And
Off-Kilter Empire" (KARAOKE) will give attendees an opportunity to sing
familiar songs with new, politically active words. Organizers plan to
offer activists and supporters an opportunity to have fun, get to know
each other, and celebrate their work.

Rock bands will include Tarnish, Monkeypox, Dirt Bikes, and the rap group
LOC. Films will include "The 7,000: Chicago's Hotel Workers Contract
Fight," Emmanuelle Day's film on local high school students walking out
against the war, and more. The event is intended all ages and there is a
suggested donation of $10 at the door. See attached schedule <A
HREF="link>here</A>.

CIMC, CMA, and RLR have also created a "Chicago Independent Media
Guide"--promoting independent radio, television, print, and other media
with a strong emphasis on local outlets--which will be distributed at the
event.
