CIMC Meeting Notes--in brief 3/9/03
In attendance: Garth, Doug, Matt, Rita, Dick, Chris G., Emily, Ian,
Alloy, Orange.
Outreach: discussed problems with getting volunteers, their
expectations, orientation, etc.
Suggestion of internships through IMC.
Action: Alloy will write up a posting for internships through CIMC and
pass it on to the working listserve.
He suggested that the four main areas that an intern could work on are:
1. Website maintenance
2. Outreach to find other content providers
3. reporting
4. Fundraising support
Action: Garth will gather a list of school contacts for posting.
Rita will fax the flyer once finished.
Phone problems, getting messages, etc.--Emily will donate an answering
machine that can be remotely contacted.
SERVER: they're updating the server today. Will have a new hard drive.
FUNDRAISER March 21st 7:30--doors open, 8:00--screenings start
AT Buddy Gallery 1542 N. Milwaukee 773-343-7332
Buddy gets $200-$250 for space, $50 for tech person and splits 30/70 of
the door. (We get the 70) No mention yet of split for refreshments.
Film lineup:
1. 20 minutes of shorts fomr Lumpin DVD
2. In Shifting Sands 8:30-10:00
3. Video slam 10-10:30 (should have local and hopefully international
IMC shorts)
4. The Hidden Wars of Desert Storm 10:40-11:50
Chris G getting pop and liquor
Snacks: Emily, Rita, Garth
Paper goods: Rita
Ice--from convenience store across the street
Food from Food Not Bombs? Dick
Rita and Garth will bring stamps and stamp pads
Rita is bringing the video projector
Hammerhead will do the PR--Emily is creating a flyer
**Need someone at the front door who will be firm about soliciting
donations.
We're going to sell t-shirts & posters
We will ask organizations to donate for a place on the program
We're going to offer cds of pictures gathered from protests--free at the
door while supplies last.--Get all pictures to Ian by Friday. Emily
will make labels and one or both are buring the cds.
Action: Decided to make a static announcement on the website about
emergency response to war with links to protest listings like the SF
site.
Emergency Response: 5pm day of and day after bombing: at Federal Plaza
8 AM day after: Federal Building
12 noon day after: students walk out
upcoming: 3/15 emergency convergence in DC at the White House. 2
busses from Chicago are going so far.
3/15 St. Patrick's Day parade downtown. Dennis Hastert leading. Bush
coming? Jerry Adams will be in town.
action planned for 2:00 pm on 3/16 Daley Center
Along with emergency response, we will post contact numbers for medical
and legal support. Dick is going to the meeting Tuesday night and get
more info.
During the 48 hours after war starts: Ian is prepared to check the IMC
phone and take calls on his cell phone from reporters at the actions.
He will post is phone number on the working listserve.
There will be about 40 sites of protest in chicago. They are listed on
the website.
In the event the IMC server is shut down: Contingency plans:
1. Ian is backing up the hardrive just in case.
2. we can use hammerhead's email list to start a daily news blast and
encourage forwarding of the post.
3. We can create a 2-page CIMC Digest that could be printed and passed,
faxed or emailed.
Suggestion we carry our equipment at all times right now and setting up
a phone tree.

Where?
How big?
# arrested?
Police behavior?
The April fundraiser will feature banned films and any video slam pieces
we couldn't fit into this one.
