Chicago originally had a similar tagline 

"bypass the coporate media machine | take control | Make up your own
mind."

Except for the mention of war, that tag line was pretty much the same
idea.
I hadn't realized that it was gone.  The New York lines look good to me.

encouraging people to "be the media".
