While i think we should be exploring other forms of collaboration and
discussion within the indymedia network, I think we can't possible stop
using email lists. If we moved everything to a web based only forum
the discussion would stop, we would cease to have public debate and it
would all be hidden within private cc mailinglists.
One thing we could do is this. We could connect our mailinglists to a
nntp usenet server. This would let people read the mail either through
a web form or their own nntp/usenet client. It would also let people
who want to keep reading an participating via email to continue doing
that.
This is what we do with the techfed.net lists and it works quite well.
As there is a large overlap between active indymedia techies and people
involved with the techfed it shouldn't be too hard to set this up.
Perhaps AFTER we get the new sarai online and start blocking spam again.
