Subject: [Imc-chicago] Chicagoland Free Speech Exchange

Hi

Chicago Indy Media is invited to participate in the planning of a new
campaign to get progressive media and speakers to new audiences
around Chicagoland. We don't even have an official name yet.

This initiative is a collaborative project of three local
organizations, United for Peace Faithful Citizenship, Oak Park
Committee for Truth and Justice, and the Chicago Office of the
American Friends Service Committee.

Too often, the many compelling local speakers and independent media
shows don't get the wide audience they deserve. We intend to foster
relationships with pre-established community organizations ranging
from religious groups to civic organizations. We will offer them
local speakers, performers, films and information about media outside
the mainstream.

However, we do not wish to only passively educate; we also seek to
mobilize. Accordingly, in addition to educating people about a wide
range of issues impacting their lives, we will provide them with
tools and information that they can use to bring progressive changes
to their communities, with the larger goal of cultivating peace and
justice in society. As an example of this type of empowerment, we
will register voters and distribute non-partisan voter information
guides at all speaker and film events. We will also work with
community partners to offer deputy voter register training to
interested groups so they can register others in their community.

We need your input and resources to make this idea a reality. If you
need more background information please call or email Carolyn
Danckert at AFSC.

Can you send a representative to our next planning meeting on
Wednesday, Nov 12th at 7:00 pm. in the Loop? Location is probably the
AFSC office at 637 S. Dearborn
