I just got back from Michigan; Rita sent this just to me, but I presume
she wanted to send this to the working group list...

Guys--I've been out of it for a few days--had company.
Anyway--don't put the UIC story up yet--it's wrong. They did not get
the grant to develop cipro-resistant strains of anthrax. Look at the
story I wrote. They got the grant to develop antibiotics that could
combat cipro-resistant strains. They have been working on a
ciproresistant strain of anthrax that is non-pathogenic, but in order to
test any new drug they come up with they have to test it on real
pathogenic ciproresistant anthrax. Although they say their research
has nothing to do with the military and developing these strains, they
admit that when they are ready to test a new drug they will be doing it
at a military research facility on highly pathogenic cipro-resistant
strains of anthrax produced here in a U.S. lab. There is also the
perception that they are using pathogenic anthrax in their lab because
they advertised it that way so what's to stop people from trying to
steal it from this insecure building? Those are the issues at hand.

I can't find my original article when searching the indymedia site but I
