Meeting Notes 9/14/03
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Tech Issues
===========
Archive
-------
Issue about getting rid of articles from the archives, that have
personal information that wasn't intended to be public (i.e., they
don't realize that the imc-chicago list is public). Archives aren't
being password protected. (Does this include imc-chicago-volunteer?
-- Ian will confirm)
(Add Mitchell to imc-chicago)
Talk to tech about purging archives better, about keeping indexes
out.
Server/software Change
----------------------
Center Panel
============
Cancun
------
See: Radio Hurricane, linked on Cancun IMC website. Information comes
from there. SF IMC seems to be giving audio, maybe Tennessee as
well.
Bring the Troops Home Rally
---------------------------
Dick covers that, Garth also does photo. And whoever else too, of
course.
Immigrant Rights Ride
---------------------
Dick enthusiastic; strong Chicago connection. Chris G. doing block.
Put up a few days before 27th. Mail to global features about doing a
chain of articles as ride continues.
City Council 9/25
-----------------
Hearings on City Council act. Consider it noted. Don sends Dick
links, Dick writes block. Put it up the weekend before event.
Bush Protest 9/30
-----------------
Noon rally, Bush fundraiser. Chris will shoot digital.
Media Reform Conference
-----------------------
Media Reform conference, Nov. 7-9, in Madison. Center Panel, CIMC
participation. Register by tomorrow, $110, maybe $150 after.
Scholarships available.
Should contact Madison IMC about what their plans are. Skepticism
abounds. Especially skepticism of paying money.
Fall Fundraiser
===============
Garth in contact with Rebecca, but she's gone. He must reestablish
contact with new person, reestablish same deal, $150, once per month,
Thursday nights, 7-10; weekend dates would have to be more expensive.
All the deal gets mixed in with whether its reaccuring, whether we
have other space there. We have consensus on monthly viewings either
way. Matt is enthusiastic about finding quality films for showings.
Collective hasn't given him a sense of support, though (e.g.,
finances), so it hasn't really moved forward.
CIMC currently has about $900.
By purchasing videos, we can develop a library, "rent" videos to other
groups. We need four people for each event night. Venue holds about
100 people.
To start: Garth needs to reconnect with WIDC, confirm deal, find date.
Matt needs (or maybe has) to acquire videos. WIDC has projector.
Market. Garth estimates a month. We have four months of content for
now (Dick and Chris). Dick would like to see a catalogue of available
content, so that we can look at that list and decide on the material.
Chris has a list of websites that might provide content.
Should contact John Grutt and Thomas Jung <sp> (missed names) about
video collective, and relation.
Question on projector quality.
Photo Training
==============
Garth is working on putting together a photo training. Probably on a
Saturday. He'll be posting it to the newswire, putting it out to some
groups. Garth is looking for people who haven't photographed before,
or people who don't really know how to post. Mostly amateurs.
Students, organizers, etc. Garth is thinking around a month from
now.
Feedback on Summer
==================
Mitchell wanted Emily L., et. al., to provide the PDF that listed the
local independent media, so we can post it (and/or its info) on the
site.
Space Issues (WIDC)
===================
Visitors
========
Catherine, from Boston, EPC (Electronic Product Code) network,
CASPIAN. Has tried to contact us for a while (though they managed to
post anyway -- direct action succedes where coordination failes ;).
She's active on the RFID (radio bar codes). (Further information
available on internet)
Trying to protest at McCormick Place.
