[CIMC-work] Quick dispatch from McCormick Place--side comment

I guess this is one of those weird places that the hard left and hard
right agree.  The case also would seem to have implications for other
local groups protesting at McCormick and other conference venues--it
will be interesting to see what legal follow-up there is--I know I'm
definitely sharing the ruling and the article.

As an aside: When I was doing research on new WMDs, I came across one of
those end-of-the-world websites that claimed implanted microchips (in
people) = the mark of the beast referred to in the book of revelations.
Maybe that's part of the religious right's concern. The technologies
certainly have demonic potential.

I just got back from the RFID protest at McCormick Place: about 25
protesters were there when I left (no one I recognized from the Chicago
Left; they were all or nearly all religious-right types, one guy wrote
his stoprfid protest sign on the back of a sign reading "No King But
Jesus").  I took some photos and will do a writeup for the wire sometime
tonight.

Also: CASPIAN won the right to protest inside McCormick Place, provided
that they pay for a $75-per-person day pass for the event.

There was also a CBS camera crew on hand (including one jerk in a suit
who gave me heat about not being "objective"--I'll tell you the story
some other time), and a camera/journalism crew from Europe.
