Hi, Eric,
I saw your message, below, that Dorina passed along to the
IMC-Chicago-Working list. I feel quite adept at news writing and (digital)
audio editing. If I can be of any assistance to you, please let me know.
If you don't know already, journalism writing is based on the 'inverted
pyramid' ordering of information -- the most important, pertinent,
newsworthy material goes in the first, or 'lead' paragraph, with the rest of
the article's material descending in importance. This is helpful in the
editing process (for limited column space in printed newspapers), as
lower-importance paragraphs can be left out without detracting too much from
the main information of the article.
(The lead and second paragraphs address the who-what-where-when-why and how
of an event.)
I'm sure that, as an experienced writer, you can more or less pick up the
journalistic style from reading it yourself in any newspaper. You may want
to consult an Associated-Press-type style booklet for more particulars.
Hope this helps -- again, feel free to be in touch....

people, who are suffering an injustice by your rulers and the occupying
army, to help them in the transfer of power to honest Iraqis." Muqtada Sadr
The press constantly harps on the theme of the danger of civil war (between
Sunnis and Shiites). The reason for this is clear: it is meant to justify
the continued occupation of Iraq. "If we withdraw, there will be civil war!"
they say. What they do not say is that they have been constantly playing up
the differences between different religious and national groups in order to
increase their own power and present themselves as the arbiter between them.
