Alloy here.
At the last Video collective meeting, video folks were planned to set a date
to discuss the decision making process. Mitchell made the point that this is
a process that the whole collective should be in on and can benefit from. So
here is my proposal to the larger collective.
I propose that the general CIMC collective and all its working groups meet
to review and consensus on its decision-making process.
I propose that we schedule this Friday May 14 or Sat. May 15, in the evening
perhaps starting around 7 PM. Things are busy around May Day and the
general meeting is the week before. By June, things get heavy with the G8
and the conventions.
I propose that we can hold this at Orange and mines place. We live on the
NW side but are close to the Blue line and we have ample parking at our
house. We also have a lot of space and a backyard for a B-B-que. We can
figure out logistics and rides for people.
Its not just a meeting, its a party.
What we need is people think about this proposal and commit to a date, time
and place. CIMC has many new members since the last time that process was
discussed. This gathering will help us all to learn the old way and find a
new ways to structure meetings and decision-making.
This makes sense for a few reasons. One, it makes the decision-making
process faster and easier. Two, a defined process helps the collective be
more creative, learning from the skills and ideas of other members. Three,
it helps to involve more quiet volunteers who might think that their ideas
don't get listened to. There are many more reasons also.
Chris G was able to find our old modified consensus process and I will send
it to all the lists in the near future. It serves as a good historical base
from where to start. Once we decide on a time and place we can plan to
define and structure the gathering better.
