Meeting Notes
=============
25 April 2004
Mayday Update
-------------
A number of films are lined up: World Social Forum in Brazil; Bush in
30 seconds; San Fransisco, Atlanta M20 protests; wall of television
sets; and more. Thomas could use help if we'll sell alcohol (tickets,
cash box). We have posters currently distributed in Pilsen, Wicker
Park, Hyde Park, Harper College, DuPaul, Heartland Cafe.
Website Update
--------------
Don and Mitchell have access now. Mitchell wants to finish redesign
that has long been discussed, changing column widths, putting in new
graphics (for translations). Don will put donate button back on.
Ian is going to look into adding WYSIWYG (what you see is what you
get) to the site.
Workshop: May Edition
---------------------
Writer's workshop for May. Chris G. was going to be in charge of
that. Also HTML instruction (Don and Dick).
Next meeting is May 9, after May 23. Planning on May 23.
Center Panel
------------
Season 1
~~~~~~~~
Thomas is in the process of putting Season 1 (first four shows) onto
a DVD. He'd like to do a center panel announcement, and sell DVDs at
Mayday event. Around Wednesday.
Peoria Update
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
300-500 people. No police presence. Good photo summary. Trying to
collect some video and audio, unknown ETA. Kevin Clark et al are
going to post a summary. 20-30% local to Peoria.
Chris and Dick want to collaborate with Dorina on a center panel,
posting Monday night, Tuesday morning.
Catapillar Strike
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Might happen, vote early this week.
Consulta for Summer
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Consulta is a meeting, where different groups communicate about what
they are planning for a time or event. More cooperative than
decisive. There's a flier out about this. Working group this
Wednesday that will finalize logistics. (chicagonewyork.com)
Topics: G8 in Georgia, DNC in Boston, RNC in New York, Air and Water
show in Chicago.
FCC Hearings
~~~~~~~~~~~~
6 scheduled meetings. Two already occurred. May 26, Rapid City,
South Dakota. Mitchell of course wants to organize something around
that.
Lawsuit against FCC about ownership rules, Philadelphia. Mitchell is
talking to people about protest/celebration depending on ruling, in
several cities. "Prometheus Rallies"
Party at Alloy's
----------------
May 14 or 15. Saturday might work better. This is a chance to talk
about process. He wants to get material so that people can come with
some background knowledge (see next...)
Tentative agenda: start at 5:30, go for two hours, then drink beer.
Process
-------
Chris G. and Alloy will pull together some of the old stuff we had
about process -- mission statement, editorial standards, etc. Ian
will try to find Haymarket description. More old items can be found
via http://archive.org , which has historical copies of
chicago.indymedia.org.
Summer Schedules
----------------
Dick proposes a working group for the various conventions.
Chris G. thinks DNC/Boston might be interesting. But it's in July 23
(pre-conference), 27-29; we might not have time to raise money and
find a group to cover that.
Dick notes we aren't connected with global organizing lists around RNC
and DNC. Eric can get to the convention, due to his Kucinich
connection.
Working group: Chris G., Dick, Eric, Mitchell, Alloy, Janet(?).
People should ping imc-chicago-working at some point to join in.
There's interest in a separate mailing list for the working group --
we could recycle the old Yahoo mailing list, of which Chris is the
administrator.
Finances
--------
Most of our cash is tied up in T-shirts and buttons. Rent coming up
($450 for the quarter). We can get a loan for that, since we don't
have liquid funds, which isn't a problem. But Don reminds us to sell
stuff, to pass hats, and otherwise help increase our financial flow.
Chris G. suggests that we sell program ad space in a screening, and
plan fundraising into the screening. High rent, larger screening.
Chris G. is going to start exploratory planning. Hothouse. Colombia
College Cultural Center, Puerto Rican Cultural Center. Other venues?
Post ideas to list.
Emily has designed an online store. We have T-shirts, DVDs, other
content that can be sold on the store. I assume it is a mockup.
Mitchell and others (Emily, Don, Ian?) are going to work towards that.
Dick suggests IMC picnic. We need to book the picnic soon, because
time fills up. Lucy Parson's park?
