The broadcast premiere of Chicago Independent
Television is set for Sunday, February 8th @ 930 pm on
CAN-TV, local cable channel #19.

Produced by Chicago Indymedia's video collective, this
television show aims to provide a true alternative to
corporate television news not only in content, but
also in terms of organizational structure. "Profit
driven news shows aren't really interested in
informing or educating the public. They want to
manipulate the public for revenue. Imagine if you had
the news delivered to you by people that cared more
about providing information and less about selling
information--that would be Chicago Independent
Television," self-quote.

The video collective, a convergence of media
activists, filmmakers, corporate and amateur
videographers, came into being because of a common
desire to tell the stories that corporate media
marginalizes or ignores.

The lead story in episode #1 documents Chicago
activists commemorating the anniversary of the
assassination of Isidro Segundo Gil. (For more
information see http://colombiaactionnetwork.org)
Other stories include an interview with Reverend Jose
Landaverde about the Latino Union and coverage of
protests against police brutality and racial injustice
that took place in St. Joseph.

Fittingly, episode #1 is rounded out by scathing
criticisms of corporate media from the likes of Studs
Terkel, Amy Goodman, Al Franken and Billy Bragg from
their speeches and performances at the Be the Media
Conference and the National Conference on Media
Reform.

There will be a repeat airing on Monday, February 9th
at 430 pm. Check out www.chicago.indymedia for more
information about the collective.
