Actually, it is attached to an article posted by the Iraqi resistance support
network....which included reference to events in Palestine as well.
( why jpegs loaded with article articles continue to be cycled for gallery
display above the wire is a mystery to me)
But, it is brutally disturbing. The question we - and Dan LB - should be
asking is why? Is it anti-semitic and racist? A fair assessment only if you assume
that the flag of the State of Israel and the Jewish people are actually
synonomous. IMHO, the appropriation of a widely recognized and venerated religious
symbol - the shield of David - for incorporation into a national state emblem
was an outrageous and cynical move by the founders of Israeli state to assert
the Zionist political claim to represent the entire Jewish people...which
they don't, as Don accurately pointed out. Nor can it mitigate the racist and
apartheid character of that regime and the reactionary ideology that underpins
it. For Palestinians living under Israeli occupation , this flag has become
a hated and feared symbol of raw, unrestrained and abusive state power. How
many of us would feel the same degree of discomfort if a Nazi symbol were
attached to the US flag - a symbol for many around the world of an equally brutal
and repressive government? An image, I'd [point out, that has often appeared
on the wire.
Food for thought.
