I would consense on: we won't hide the image (adding that it belongs to
an article about the Israeli/Palestinian issue, and wasn't necessarily
submitted as a stand-alone item) but we are considering the role of the
rotating media gallery, and the issue of out-of-context images. (But we
haven't made any decisions on that)
BTW, I sent an email to Dan earlier, telling him we were talking about
this, so he wouldn't think we were ignoring him.
Don had some thoughts of giving more context to images in the rotating
front-page spot -- e.g., linking them to their article, including a more
prominent article title, or somesuch. I think that would be pretty
doable without any major modifications to the code (though I'd have to
ask about specifics). In this specific case, we could also have hidden
the image without hiding it in the article (since the article
specifically references the image), or we could have changed the date on
the image so it got pushed back and was too old to be in the rotation,
and again it would have still appeared in the article.
