Meeting Notes

22 February 2004

M20 Preparations
----------------

We have talked to people in Indymedia who can host our stream.  We
have a mixer, Thomas has a limiter, we're looking at DarkIce for the
encoder, voila.  So we have all the pieces.  Open issues:

We need to connect our phone to the computer room.  We need to
publicize the number.  We want to figure out how to capture the
stream, so people can listen to our live coverage after the fact.  We
need the IP address we'll connect from.  We'll need filler.  Other
Indymedias?  Two people on the air -- Mitchell wants to do it, but
maybe Rita wants to be at the march.  Some way send speaches?

We might be able to do a real test for March 4 actions, but it's a
Thursday.  Maybe just a test on a different day.


Center Panels

M21: Beat Kitchen
-----------------

Emily needs everyone to go.  We need 20 people for our commitment to
Beat Kitchen.  Mitchell will post to imc-chicago-announce 2 weeks
previous.  Emily says we should look at a newsletter at
http://miapark.com

Emily looking for DVD of episode 2, and Judy Hoffman video.  Indymedia
gets 1/2-priced food and $1 beer.


Editorial Policy
----------------

We all agree that it's really a problem of out-of-context images.
Some resolutions -- we could probably have hidden the image without
eliminating it from the originating article.  In the redesign, we
plan to size the media gallery down, and perhaps replace "XX new
posts since..." with the article title (maybe limited length).

----------------------

No progress that we know of.  Mitchell will follow up with Chris.

Mitchell was contacted by someone at 848, to talk about the RCN/CANTV
issue.  They found him through Google; someone else also found
Mitchell this way (somehow through a "FCC" search).

He was on 848 Feb 11, available online.


Photo Report
------------

Got a few serious people.  And some not as serious people.  But Garth
remains dedicated!


Intern
------

We have an intern, Beccy.  She's thinking of some sort of
photo-documentary, maybe something that could be shown at the Hot
House.  She's a Val Paraiso student.  She's with us until May.


Phone
-----

John Dickson is getting messages on the Indymedia phone.  Apparently
he's been giving out our number as though its his personal number, but
no one knows who he is.  Like a bank made a call.


Newspaper
---------

New newspaper, Third Coast, another free paper.  Emily's doing design,
Mitchell and Garth are also involved.  They're posting some calendars,
and stuff like that.


Indymedia Schmooze
------------------

We want to have a casual get-together, potluck, something like that.
Include the Video Collective and whatever people.  We're thinking
after M20.
