Thanks for the query.
My brain was in this track: We are very worried about first time voters who have perhaps less than a sophisticated understanding of how they are being manipulated by mainstream media. (Damn, I sat next to a young 24- year old man living in Texas yesterday on my way home from Boston. He likes Bush because he perceives Bush as a guy tough on the death penalty, but may not vote anyway, because, "I just don't vote.") I believe there are many others out there, who just "don't vote." And who have NO clue about the real issues.
I had the idea that we had to introduce our audience to the concepts of propaganda and mind manipulation, and the FCC's role in all this.
The focus was not on alternatives, but indeed that was an error. We must be willing to show that there indeed are alternatives and that folks can uncover many ways to find diverse points of view.
That you are doing great work is without a doubt.
There is a possibility that -- given some last minute changes, we might be able to ask one of you to join the panel. You would serve as showing that there are other ways to go to learn about the truth -- and be the last to speak--as a wrap-up. Let me get back to you today.
Thanks for alerting me!
Liane
