That's more than I realized.  So maybe a post does make sense.  All 
posts are moderated, and the password follows the same algorithm as for 
the other lists -- so you have to send an email to the list, then go in 
and approve it.

Really the intention for the announce list was that we'd subscribe all 
the addresses of people who signed up at events.  We have, in the past, 
gotten email addresses that we haven't done anything with.  This list 
would be a simple way to administer this, and to post things to 
interested people.  We just need to push it more.  OTOH, we can already 
post things to our website.
