hey gang,
if you take the time to read the letter i just cc-ed to the working list, it'll explaing some things on where US-IMC is at. In a
nutshell, an Urbana tech cooperative formed of imc people had offered to set up the imc-us site in exchange for a
permanent link and a two week feature. needless to say, there were many oppositions to this exchange for advertising.
The group, ACORN, has formed as a non-profit company. I am verifying explicitly if the members will be paid- I have also
asked if the group will benefit from the recent 200k soros windfall. If they do, I have countered that Chicago will be
compelled to block ACORN's involvement in the imc-us. Really this point of exchanging advertising for services is enough
to abort the plan, which i pointed out (as well as others). There has not been a formal block on the proposal as of yet.
in the meantime i have countered with a proposal to comprehensively solicit diverse tech support from the indymedia
network. A tech needs list will be developed as well as a comprehensive mailing list.
Lastly, I just looked through the list archives and could not find my response to Mitchell's latest draft revisal of our letter to
US-IMC. sigh. I spent a good while answering the concerns. In short, not to negate Mitchell's work, but I think it would be
better if we addressed our concerns by active participation in the current process. At this point to block IMC-US would be a
major undertaking in order to get the proper justification. Many of the concerns in our letter have been addressed and will
be addressed during future evolution. If I get some more time I will go through the letter again and make a concise
response.
anyway, glad we had a good meeting today,
garth
