yes, i'm particularly upset by their last minute notice. I know Rosemarie Slavenas personally (whose son died), they also
keep having these events on wednesdays when most people work too. perhaps i'm just being selfish because i have to
leave it out of my book now...

oh well,
garth

Wish I'd known about this. Would have brought my digital camera to work.

Hey all. Just got this from AFSC. Sounds like an amazing photo op. and a powerful statement. Anybody available to shoot
digital for this on Wednesday?

MEMORIAL FOR 500+ SOLDIERS KILLED IN IRAQ

Wednesday, January 21st from 11 AM - 2 PM

Over 500 pairs of army boots will stand empty on Federal Plaza (Jackson &
Dearborn) on Wednesday, January 21, to memorialize the deaths of the 500
soldiers who have died in Iraq since the March 20th invasion.  A press
conference at 12 PM will feature Rosemarie Slavenas, mother of First Lt.
Brian Slavenas killed in Iraq on November 2; Paul Vogel, father of Army
reservist Aaron Vogel currently serving in Iraq; Barry Romo, National
Coordinator of Vietnam Veterans Against the War; and Michael McConnell,
Regional Director of the American Friends Service Committee.

In addition to the 500 army boots laid out in regiment formation, a 30-foot
long memorial wall will display the names, ages and states of those U.S.
service members killed in Iraq.  The memorial will be displayed from 11 AM -
2 PM and is open to the public.  This event is sponsored by the American Friends Service Committee.
