Chicago Social Forum
--------------------

This Satudary. Starts at 9:00, our session starts at 10:30.

Still figuring out how to get network, projector access. Maybe
someone in the video collective can get a projector?

No one from Video Collective is currently involved. Interest?

Current session leaders -- Mitchel, Chris G., Garth.

Debate about whether to break out into workshops, or do it all
together. Chris G argues that there won't be enough people to do
workgroups, and the people will largely be coming in without
preconceptions of what they want to do with CIMC.

Fred is going to be covering the Forum, so the idea for the video
portion is to cover the coverage.

Ian is going to try to install dada onto a couple laptops, so that
people can show off the software without a network connection.

Photo, video, web, audio split-up of projects. Do two workshops,
each 30 minutes, and people could switch around.

We're going to look into setting up wireless, so that we can get
network access. Ian has a wireless router to borrow.

Website Redesign
----------------

Emily has a mockup (or actual HTML?) for the site.

Ian thinks it looks unbalanced with dark on one side, and light on
the other.

We want more calendar links, to more Chicago calendars.

We'll talk about this more later.

Garth now wants to keep the media calendar, and make it really big.

Chris G: change "post news" to "publish news"

Chris G wants longer newswire.

Garth things we could increase the local more, and elsewhere even
more (but elsewhere stays below). Chris G wants a target of two days
worth of stories.

Upcoming Center Panels
----------------------

Kathy Kelly is standing trial. Agreement to center panel the story,
whatever happens. Joseph Mulligan is also standing trial, and has an
association with Chicago. Garth is getting graphic for Mitchell.

Various plans surrounding M20 anniversary mobilization. Rally at
Pearson and Michigan, so people can complete the march that was
started a year ago. Kali (PFJ?) are organizing this stuff. There's
some issue of conflict with the Arab community, about whether they
are allowed to bring up Arab issues (Palestine, Afghanistan) during
these events. I can't keep track of who all is involved -- keeping
track of all this is the story. Chris G thinks this should come
together more in the next week or so, and would like to develop a
center panel around this, and around whatever events develop for
M20.

Kelly Lizer has an article on the newswire Venezuelan women's speaking
-- small lones, localized economy stuff. Garth proposes a center
panel. All agree. Mitchell agrees to make it a center panel.
Followup on list.

Colombian group is bringing in a union organizer. They'd like a
feature as well. Garth asked them to post the information with a
graphic.

February 8th screening feature. Emily will come up with announcement
and Upcoming Events posting. May or may not make the feature itself.

Festival Debriefing
-------------------

We got over a 120 people for the two days. Enthusiastic feedback.
WIDC was pleased. Several other organizations have requested further
showing at other locations.

Chris G suggests $10, but no one turned away. Thomas wanted to get
money from people after they get in, through merchandise and drinks.

Answering Machine
-----------------

We have a new machine. Stores 14 min. Remote check. Rita has
volunteered to check messages, and she'll email messages to us.

Other Side of AIDS
------------------

90 minute screening.

Chris G would like to get Andy Thayer, Felano, Bob Schwartz, with the
Anti-Bashing Network. Rita has proposed this before, to screen it for
them, and include them in the screening.

Rita and Mitchell have written a letter (which hasn't been sent out),
asking the CABN about this. Don had a concern about the wording,
that it sounded like "We'll show it anyway, whatever you think."

Chris G is concerned about interpretation of this showing. Elements
in the Right have used this notion, and Chris G is worried about
appearing to be aligned with them.

Rita feels this is an important issue, it is a non-mainstream,
non-corporate source.

Next step: Chris G is going to take the video to several people in
the GLB community. We are consensed, if on this alone.

Loyola Event, Panel of Speakers
-------------------------------

No date set, sometime in March. Thomas wants to move forward on
this, as he will.

Independent Publishers Association (Chicago)
--------------------------------------------

Don suggested we could help them move into the online world, and that
we could help them, and perhaps use their print outlets for some of
our stories.

Don is on the mailing list.

February 8th Screening
----------------------

Beat Kitchen, we're signed up for a film showing. We are supposed to
bring in 20 people. It happens after the meeting, so we could all
just go to the showing directly after the meeting, thus building up
the number of people we bring.

We need to do the screenings in half hours chunks. Emily is planning
to do the programming. Discussion continues on mailing list.

IMC-US, San Francisco
---------------------

We consensed that we support an open newswire on IMC-US.

Editorial Statement
-------------------

It got lost in the shuffle of the move. But Chris G wants to
rewrite the statement, since most of the people weren't part of the
original discussion.

Ian will repost the old statement, both to mailing list and site.
