[CIMC-work] Minutes from Sunday June 27 General Collective Meeting (part deux)

Just a few additional points from the General Collective Meeting on Sunday.

    10.  BHT (BHT at Indymedia.org) from Portland's Indymedia group updated us on the global issue surrounding the use of the Indymedia name with "Indymedia Newsreel".  Free speech TV was given a $30,000 grant to do a 30 city tour using the Indymedia name.  2 members of Free Speech TV and an additional non-Indymedia person intend to use the Indymedia name and the grant money to get paid and stay in nice hotels too.  Hence, there is controversy.  Indymedia.org apparently does not have a trademark, so legal action may not be feasible.  We, ChicagoIndymedia, perhaps in collaboration with other Indymedia collectives on the tour, want to write a statement to submit to Free Speech TV.

At this point we are aware of neither the wording of the grant proposal nor the identity of the granting agency.  You can learn more about the discussion of the controversy by checking out:

    11.  Keys:Dorina picked up keys to the front door and Room 7.
    12.  Logging calls: Rita is checking messages and forwarding the messages to the appropriate person.  When Rita is not able to do this Don is the substitute.
    13.  Please assist in outreach, particularily with regards to technical help.  If a tech volunteer is found, please send a note to  chicago-tech at lists.indymedia.org with details.  IPA was mentioned as a group to extend outreach.
