Excuse my "butting-in" here:
Again with the proviso that this is off the top of my head, I'm a bit puzzled that audio uploading would be any different, despite the change in the site's codebase. Regarding the volume level, it might have come out low-level if it was fed into your computer that way.
I think most newer computers and browsers come with an audio-listening plug-in, like RealAudio or QuickTime. But it was thoughtful to provide the reader with a link for downloading an audio player.
