Dear Ali:

My name is Rita Sand.  I work with the Chicago Indymedia collective and
I answer volunteer inquiries.  Indymedia in general is an all volunteer
media project.  You might want to contact the Urbana-Champaign IMC,
though.  I know they have been trying to get grant money although they
may not be using it for personnel but for space and equipment.

We offer unpaid internships and the opportunity to practice grassroots
journalism.  We have a radio project, video collective, photography
collective and folks who do print media.  You are welcome to come and
check us out or join us.

You can sign up for any of the many listserves associated with the
collective to get to know other volunteers and what is being covered
right now.  Check out http://chicago.indymedia.org/lists.php3 -- it has
instructions, and a description of the lists.  Go to  U.S. Midwest,
chicago lists--I would suggest signing up for the imc-chicago-working
list.

CIMC general meetings are the 2nd and fourth Sundays of the month at
4:00 PM at 3411 W. Diversey, near the corner of Milwaukee near Logan
Square.  Just press #19 and someone with buzz you in.  By talking with
people and/or attending meetings, I'm sure you will find your niche or
create a new one for yourself in CIMC.
