[CIMC-work] Hiding articles - process

Well, since Garth is taking a break and with things going on, I guess
we need to share the effort hiding things on the newswire. So, for
anyone who doesn't know

On the editorial screen, I looked back as far as the last hidden
article. If we each do that it doesn't take too long to go through
these.

The basic pattern for other people who haven't done this: go to
http://chicago.indymedia.org/editor (logging in, of course), and go
back through the articles until you see one that is hidden (you know
someone else has looked at any articles that come after a hidden
article). I just open each article up in a separate tab in Mozilla
(Ctrl-click or Command-click; works on Safari too). Once I've opened
them all up, I go to the last tab and close them as I look through
them.

To hide an article, click on "article options" in the top right. A
little way down in the form is display options, select hide and perhaps
give a reason.

Don't agonize over anything written by Gideon -- anything he writes can
be hidden, even if a particular post seem innocuous. There may be
other trolls you'll notice -- I think they might be apt to use the same
handle, like a vandal who uses the same tag, it makes them feel like
they are cumulatively accomplishing something.

I'd like for each person to have their own editorial login, which
you'll need to hide articles and comments. If you don't want to be
public about it, using an alias is perfectly fine. You can contact me
or Don to get you set up (actually other people can set up editorial
accounts as well, but they may not realize it). You can call me at
773-275-7241, though I will be out of town (though not incommunicado)
for a week starting on the 20th.

   Ian
