Hi all,
I'm not sure who Shawn is (one of the button peopel?), but
I would like to say that most of my energy will go into
documenting the anti-war movement. As such, doing
work that increases votes for either demopublican pro-
war corporate candidates is not a priority.
Concerning Illinois and local elections, I think at best we
might center panel an index of articles from the newswire
that contributors might have posted. These should be
well- articulated articles that reflect (if possible) the
mission statement of CIMC.

Subject: voting initiative
Hi all,
I'm writing to talk to you guys about an idea I'd like to
work on for
this fall. It may seem early, but I'd really like to do a great
job
with this, so we need to start thinking and working now.
I'd like to do
a series of shows, PSAs, and other efforts to encourage
our audience to
vote. In Illinois, voter registration ends 27 days before the
election,
which will be October 6th. That means we should work on
one push to
encourage people to register, and a second to encourage
people to vote.
Here are some ideas I have. I'd like to hear yours as well.
*Organizing voter registration tables at some high profile
shows and
events
*PSAs with crucial information about how to get registered
*PSAs which really get at the basic fact that voting DOES
matter to
young people (focus on issues like student loans,
healthcare,
militarism, privacy rights, GLBT rights, etc)
*week's/couple weeks' worth of community shows prior to
the election
focusing on voting issues
*broad citywide promotion in clubs, bars, record stores,
etc., where
bringing in your voting stub on election day gets you a
discount/free
admission, a free beer, a couple dollars off a purchase,
etc.
The challenge, of course, is to really make this
information relevant
to our listeners.
Let's talk. 'Reply all' on your responses.
thanks,
--Shawn
