Frankly, I hope that we don't cater to the small group of people who are
overreacting to the photos posted in that thread. As I explained in my post
to that thread, this is an example of *responsible* journalism that take into
consideration security concerns. The person who posted the pictures was
concerned enough about the legal ramifications of these photos (very small
legal implications) that they asked Bork about this last night when she was
leaving the courthouse.

If Indymedia DC ever decides to hide this thread and those pictures, we will
be setting a terrible precedent that we will regret later.

I've been leaning more and more to the Indymedia side of these issues. I can
understand the security reasons for not posting photos to the wire that show
people doing illegal stuff. This instance doesn't qualify for extra caution
because no faces are evident in these pictures, which simply depicted a mild
for of disruption that would never merit serious charges. My thinking these
days is that if you choose to participate in protests in an urban setting
with lots of journalists around, either mask up to hide your identity or stay
at home. If you are present in a public space, people have the right to take
pictures of you.

"The state can't give you free speech, and the state can't take it away.
You're born with it, like your eyes, like your ears. Freedom is something you
assume, then you wait for someone to try to take it away. The degree to which
you resist is the degree to which you are free..."
