Global Cannabis Liberation actions

As you might know already, this weekend was designated
for Global Cannabis Liberation Mobilizations around
the world. There were events such as protests,
rallies, forums, smoke-ins, and street- fests in about
200 locations, all over the planet! Many thousands of
people are involved in making these events into a
reality.

The event, also known as MMM (Million Marijuana March)
has been evolving for decades, but it’s only been the
last few years that it has grown in scope to being
global -wide. It tends to fall on the weekend closest
to Mayday (no coincidence there!), and it is the only
other independent anti-authoritarian movement of
global depth with any sense of organization and the
ability to mobilize people, in addition to the
Anti-globalization Movement.

For now, MMM is one of the top features at New York
City Indymedia and Italy Indymedia.

There were many arrests of protestors, all of whom
were involved in totally peaceful, non-violent
activities, though in comparison to the number of
participants globally, the arrests were very few. The
news and reports from the weekend events are coming in
right now. It usually takes one or two days to compile
them into a meaningful whole. For those interested in
more about this campaign, please see:

In the Eastern Mediterranean part of the world, where
there are several million Friends of Cannabis, the
event was observed in the total secrecy of entirely
underground conditions, given that Friends of Cannabis
often face brutal and near- total destruction of
livelihood if exposed to the punitive action of the
established powers in our region’s countries.

This global movement aims at restoring the rights of
people who need cannabis for medical reasons to have
it without obstacles, the rights of people who use
cannabis for religious purposes in prayer to have it
without obstacles, and the right of people who choose
to use cannabis for recreational reasons, to use it
without obstacles. The movement is aimed at saving the
lives of ill people, and restoring the religious
rights of oppressed native religions all over the
world, and ensuring that adults who are able to use
this harmless herb responsibly for their own reasons
should not be penalized by a vengeful system of
prohibition. Prohibition forces people to seek poisons
such as alcohol, psychiatric drugs, or street- drugs
as "alternatives" to cannabis, with a terrible impact
on the health of the individual and the community.
Prohibition also maintains a lucrative system of
organized crime which is operated and controlled by
only the most successful criminals, in collusion with
the most corrupt members of the law-enforcement,
legislative, and administrative branches of our
governments.

Conditions of democracy have not yet evolved to the
point that simple, unprivileged citizens of our
countries can enjoy protection of the Right to
Expression or the Right to Assemble in the name of
this cause, and so our efforts remain mostly hidden,
protected by secrecy and surrounded by dangers.
