Dear friends,

In order to ensure that our collective memory of the terrible events which shook Gujarat from February 27 onwards does not get eroded through the passage of time and the fog of deception and disinformation of the BJP and State apparatus, some friends of mine and I have produced a book which Penguin has just published. Called Gujarat: The Making of a Tragedy, our book is based equally on both freshly written pieces and already published material. But it is organised thematically in such a way as to provide a seamless and fully referenced narrative of the violence, its nature and causes, and its consequences. Nobody who goes through the book will be in any doubt about the organised nature of the pogrom, the role of the BJP-RSS, the police, etc.
