Dear media-maker!

When the “net hype” set in at the beginning of the 90s and the
internet was used more and more in private homes, some
voices demanded that the internet should grow to be a true
communication instrument, where users can also become
makers. Especially the distribution of alternative information
should be facilitated and thus make the democratization of the
entire communication process possible.

I am a student of journalism at the Catholic University of
Eichstätt-Ingolstadt in Germany. In my master’s thesis I am
analysing alternative media on the internet. Besides the
publications themselves I want to examine the motivations of
the media-makers. In order to find out, among other things,
why people turn to the internet to publish alternative
information and what role the medium plays for networking of
people with similar interests, I will be sending out a survey in
the next few days to you and other members of alternative
publications.

Opinions and experiences of the individual media-maker play
the important role. It is essential for the meaningfulness of the
study that I have as many answers as possible at my
disposal. Every survey counts! Thus I would like to ask you to
take some time to fill in the survey. The processing will take
about 20 minutes. Your anonymity will be protected.

Should you have questions or suggestions concerning the
study or the survey, do not hesitate to contact me under the
