PRESS RELEASE

Oberlin Coalition Against the War (OCAW)

Regional Anti-War Conference

The Oberlin Coalition Against the War (OCAW) is sponsoring a Regional
Anti-War Conference to be held at Oberlin College on the weekend of
December 7th and 8th. The explicit purpose of the conference is to
organize students and youth who oppose war on Iraq, but people of all
ages are welcome. OCAW seeks to create a diverse network of regional
anti-war activists to be an integral part of the larger anti-war movement.

Proposed workshop topics include: Understanding Islam, Post-WWII History
of Iraq, Lessons from Vietnam, Alternatives to War, U.S. Foreign Policy
in the Middle East since the Gulf War, Israel/Palestine, How to Frame
the Anti-war Argument, and the Role of the Media since 9/11. Proposals
for additional topics or workshops as well as assistance organizing the
conference are welcome

Students at Oberlin College have established the Oberlin Coalition
Against the War (OCAW) to create a space on campus in which to unite
students, faculty, staff, administrators, and community members around
five points of unity:

· No to war on Iraq
· End the sanctions on Iraq
· Defend civil liberties
· Money for jobs, education,
and healthcare, not war
· Commitment to anti-oppression

OCAW believes that we, as people of conscience, make public our
opposition to the war and collaborate with one another to build a strong
and expanding anti-war and peace movement in this country. This
conference will contribute to this effort.
