[IMC-Editorial] DEMOS: is this a genuine interview request?

Our director received this email. Does it come from someone at Indymedia?
It's not clear whether it is a genuine interview request or fullfilment of a
conspiracy theorist's fantasy. If Indymedia feels it <has> been ignored it
is more likely to be cock-up than conspiracy. Do get in touch with me if
there is an interest in talking to Demos.

Hi tom,
my name is marcus. i am an IMC-UK journalist. if you have done your
research, you should know that indymedia is very large on your radar. we
have been trying to talk to you and, so far, we have been ignored. now you
are trying to talk to the guardian and representing a movement of which i am
very much part of. I would like to meet and interview you but also, apart
from getting past the obvious stuff, i have some real questions for you to
think about.

Noreena Hertz quoted, one third of CEOs now see the anti-globalisation
movement as a "serious threat". indymedia is very interested in this quote.
we have been watching the rise in the call for new cyber laws to protect
capital law on the internet. no wander we are a threat then. do you consider
us as a threat? i see it from a democracy point of view and freedom of
information and speech. something worth fighting for, don't you think?

"The movements have not been vanquished, as some would like to suggest, but
they will have to reinvent themselves to a great extent. Either they will
need to develop a 'policy function', as many NGOs already do, to present
detailed and credible proposals and alternatives and be admitted into
mainstream dialogue, or they will need to root themselves much more directly
in local contexts and constituencies that are visibly legitimate and taken
seriously by companies and governments. "

does having a policy function, extend to indymedia? a global movement media
machine spanning 105 cities in 70 cities? that is so organic and is growing
in many senses in totally new directions in terms of politics and democracy?
You should also consider the implications also of a growing number of human
rights and justice groups becoming powerful though the courts, like the diaz
victims of which, i am one.

Marcus Covell.

I leave it to you to consider meeting, where and when.

I bleed, therefore i am
