Take Back the Cinema
"I am not about to create Hasidic, gay action figures and do tie-ins with
McDonald's or Moishe's Deli to help propel Trembling."
Take Back the Cinema - Don't Give Up Your Power! By Sandi Simcha DuBowski

Orthodox Outreach Project: Israel - Reaching 10,000 Israeli Religious Students
Tanya Zion has been hired as an Israeli Outreach Director to lay the ground
before our Keshet TV broadcast in Spring 2003.
She has been leading Small Group Screenings and Discussions with school
principals, educators, rabbis, and mental health professionals in the
Israeli school system, targeting especially the religious school system.
While Orthodox Jews in Israel have been more resistant to the film than in
the Diaspora, when a private screening was offered to principals to help
them better take care of their students, not one turned us down. While the
conversations were heated, all the principals agreed that since the film
focuses attention on compassion, not changing halacha or Jewish law, it
should be shown to their staff. Tanya is now recruiting Orthodox
facilitators and is working with rabbis and therapists to plan a two-day
training seminar in order to carry the film into the Orthodox educational
system reaching the teachers of 10,000 religious students.

Orthodox Outreach Project: North America / Supportive Orthodox Mental
Professionals
We have completed a five-week strategic planning process with the generous
donation of time and guidance from angels Nelson Gonzalez, Aliza Mazor,
Jeremy Burton and Laurie Heller and have finished a proposal that we will
begin passing to funders. We will soon update you about our exciting plans
to use Trembling to launch a new educational initiative in North America's
Orthodox community.
Please send us any connections to funders who want to move the film into
the hardest-to-reach religious places where it has the ability to make a
profound difference.
We are compiling a list of Orthodox mental health professionals who have
been supportive to gays and lesbians in their practice and need your
suggestions.
We have been flooded by worldwide requests for help and need to be able to
direct people to affirmative therapists.
Note: special screening in Deal, NJ through the JCC on 10/23 - many gay men
have come out in the Syrian Jewish community in the past year since the
film opened - this program and panel will begin a public dialogue. DuBowski
and Rabbi Greenberg in attendance.

Interns/Volunteers - We need your help!

Reopening NYC - One-Year Anniversary - Symphony Space and BAM beginning
October 25th. We need volunteers to form a Trembling Anniversary Team and
cover Brooklyn and Manhattan with flyers! Many special events including one
with Rabbi Shmuley Boteach, author of Kosher Sex.
I will also serve the weekend before on the 10th Anniversary Hamptons Film
Festival Documentary Jury.

Canada Smash Success!
Trembling ran for six weeks in Toronto.
Seeing the cover of "The Globe and Mail" with a caption reading "Trembling
Before G-d: A Landmark" was extraordinary. And the front-page Globe Review
feature - Matthew Hays' "Loving G-d, being g-y" is the most clever title
yet. We had an interfaith panel of seven GLBT religious leaders - Orthodox,
Christian, Muslim, Sikh and Catholic (the room was electric

Germany /France TV Broadcast - 20% higher viewers than ARTE normally
screens on that theme evening. An incredible response. Good news - Paris
theatrical release this July at MK2 Beaubourg.

From MTV to the Fruit Farm - Trembling was selected for MTV's Diversity
Film Series kick-off
After our screening at the Paramount screening roomm,
we did a satellite conversation with MTV's affiliates in NYC, Atlanta,
Chicago, and Los Angeles. Thanks to Michael Sanchez. We also had a great
screening at The Jewish Center of the Hamptons, a speech on Trembling's
whirlwind year at The Creative Capital Foundation retreat, and my favorite
festival yet - at Fruit Farm Film Festival in Oregon where we screened in a
