[IMC-Editorial] anti-semitism from a reader comment

To indymedia staff:
In reply to one of the stories posted on the site's "newswire" page,
one reader wrote:
"The sooner Americans wake up and realize that their country is owned
and operated by jews, the better.
America is just an Israeli colony, always was."
Is this consistent with what readers should get from "grassroots, non-
corporate coverage....a democratic media outlet for the creation of
radical, accurate, and passionate tellings of truth"?
I am passionately opposed to Israel's actions, and to ways that the
US supports Israel. But I am also disgusted with the increasingly
blatant anti-Semitism that permeates "progressive" discourse around
this stuff.
I am also deeply committed in my own life to "radical, accurate and
passionate tellings of truth." I am appalled to read a comment like
the one above, but I can certainly see how the frame in the stories
about Israel could give readers permission to spot anti-Semitic
nonsense. Of course, maybe indymedia folk don't think this is
nonsense, in which case perhaps someone could organize a campaign to
kill off all the Jews in this country and elsewhere, to restore
justice and all of that.
It hurts to read this kind of stuff on a progressive/radical site,
and makes me doubt the potential of a true movement for authentic
social and economic justice. Just thought I would share.
