Special to Journalists - Holiday Gift Giving Story Idea

High Tech Meets Mother Nature for the Holidays

The National Wildlife Federation and eNature team up to offer
Multi-media Bird Guide for the Palm OS

Got a nature lover on your holiday shopping list, or maybe someone into birds? Now there's a way to become better acquainted with your feathered friends thanks to a marriage of high technology and years of wildlife study and expertise. The National Wildlife Federation (NWF) has joined forces with eNature to develop the premier multi-media Bird Guide for the Palm OS that fits in your pocket and goes anywhere.

When you spot a bird you want to know more about, you can use the Advanced Search to find birds by name, size, group and color. The bird audio feature lets you listen to bird songs and identify birds even if you can't see them. Thorsten Claus, California bird enthusiast raves, "It's absolutely GREAT! The sounds are fantastic, and I can even call birds with them! I will recommend it to everyone I know."

Compatible with any Palm OS 5 unit, the guides include detailed species descriptions, color photos, field marks, range maps and more. You can even zoom in on bird photos! There are Bird Guides for the 48 continental states and Alaska, so you can use it in your backyard and reference it when you travel too.

The handheld Bird Guide is perfect for hiking or taking nature walks with the family so you can always be prepared to answer those "what's that" questions that kids always have. "Remarkable software, truly innovative and useful," says George Harrison, noted national bird expert and author.

The Bird Guides are available in four titles including, Backyard and Trail Birds, Shore and Water Birds, Birds of Prey, and Birds by State. With 58 million bird watchers in the U.S. this is certain to be a popular gift item this holiday season. The guides can be purchased for as low as $3.99 to $9.99 at eNature.com/handheld (Palm OS not included). The Bird Guides will also be available in retail stores in early 2004.

NOTE TO EDITORS and PRODUCERS: To download a free sample of the Bird Guide go to eNature.com/handheld/press.

The nation's largest member-supported conservation education and advocacy group, the National Wildlife Federation unites people from all walks of life to protect nature, wildlife and the world we all share.

eNature is the premier source of wildlife information on the Web. Delivering unparalleled nature discovery tools to the more than 60 million Americans actively participating in wildlife watching, eNature is the most extensive nature resource for both educational and recreational purposes. In February 2001, eNature was acquired by NWF as a wholly owned, for-profit subsidiary.
