Cancer is very painful. It kills small kids, it kills teenagers, it kills
mothers, it kills fathers. It must be fought by every means.
We feel proud to honour those who have very significantly
contributed in the fight against Cancers. They will inspire people
around the world to rise above their limitations and defeat the
disease, which kills millions around the world every year.
Ms.Nancy Brinker of the U.S.A. started the Komen Foundation in
memory of her sister Susan G. Komen who died of Breast Cancer.
The foundation, which was started in 1982, has raised more than
250 Million Dollars and has 118 affiliates. No one can of course
measure the number of patients the foundation must have
helped.
Late Dr. Vicky Clement-Jones of U.K.died of Ovarian Cancer. But
she did something unimaginable during the long, and at times
extremely painful fight with Cancer. Dr.Jones who was initially
given three months to live, kept on for five years and set up
CancerBACUP to help Cancer patients. A heroic feat beyond
description!
Ruth Picardie and Beth Wagstaff of U.K. were diagnosed with
Breast Cancer when both were 32 years of Age. They did not
survive long, but it was enough time for them to start The
Lavender Trust to help young Cancer patients. They lost but they
won.
Mr.Imran Khan has set up the most modern hospital to treat
Cancers at Lahore in Pakistan. A cricket legend, he lost his
mother to Cancer. He does not want others to lose their mothers.
Single-handedly he has set up this hospital to treat Cancers. How
to describe this?
These people teach us one thing- if one has the will, one can.
