Musician Polar Levine Collaborates With "Danny Schechter,
the News Dissector" on a "Media Parody for Media Parity"

MEDIA WARS is Danny Schechter's new book focused on News at a Time of Terror commenting on media coverage in the aftermath of the September llth attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon. Media Critic Schechter's daily "dissections" on the Mediachannel.org website (www.mediachannel.org/weblog) and in other outlets. The new book offers assessments by media monitors of a 'Patriotic Correctness' in the coverage that has often skewed and distorted it.

Now, that book is being promoted by a companion CD sound track featuring music by Polarity/l, and eight selections that critique and confront media coverage of the Iraq war and the lead up to it. The principal cut, Media Wars, blends excerpts from the TV coverage with comments and "raps" by News Dissector Danny Schechter as well as comments from journalists and activists interviewed during a massive anti-war march in New York City.

"We released this record to inspire resistance to the news media functioning as an arm of the government and a tool to promote war," says veteran TV producer Danny Schechter.

The album also includes Polarity/l's new song 70 Virgins which takes on fundamentalism in all of its forms and two earlier Schechter-Polarity/l collaborations, "NEWS GOO" and "A FAMILY SITUATION," a commentary on the Nile Rodgers' remake of the classic WE ARE FAMILY with 200 top entertainment figures. Recorded ten days after 9/11, this "song" echoes the We Are Family call for tolerance and global understanding. The album also includes a "dissection" by Danny Schechter and a Schechter interview with Polarity/1's Polar Levine. There are also shorter versions of Media Wars and News Goo for Radio Airplay.

MEDIA WARS can also be streamed and downloaded from the Popcultmedia.com website:
