[IMC-Editorial] PRESS RELEASE: International LOGO Competition for UIA Congress has been concluded

First time in Turkey  
International LOGO Competition on the Internet  Concluded

The jury evaluation for the contestant logos, designed for the XXII Union of International Architects (UIA) Congress to be held in Istanbul in July 2005, which will be hosted by the Chamber of Architects of Turkey,   has finalized. 

The UIA Congress, which is held every three years, is the widest platform that gathers thousands of architects to discuss actual architectural problems, inclinations and architects’ relations with the society. 10.000 architects are expected to join the UIA 2005 Istanbul Congress.

It has been the first time in Turkey that an international graphic design competition was held on the Internet. The national and international interest was remarkable; there had been more than 1700 registration and 790 works participated in the contest.  Beside the contestants, the website (www.uia2005logo.org) has been very popular and has received almost 250,000 hits.

In the Competition, which is an organization of the Chamber of Architects of Turkey and supported by the UIA and the Graphic Artists Professional Institution of Turkey, 264 logos out of 790 were from Turkey. Except from Turkey, there had been 526 works sent from 52 different countries from all over the world, such as; USA, Germany, Argentina, Australia, Austria, Azerbaijan, Belgium, Bolivia, Brazil, Bulgaria, China, Denmark, Ecuador, Indonesia, Philippines, Finland, France, S. Korea, Georgia, India, Holland, Hong Kong, Croatia, Japan, Canada, Kazakhstan, Colombia, Cuba, Cyprus, Lebanon, Malaysia, México, Norway, Pakistan, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Taiwan, Trinidad & Tobago,  Uruguay, Venezuela, Britain, Jordan, Spain, Switzerland, Italy, Yugoslavia, Uzbekistan, Chile.

Preliminary selection for the first 50 logos made by the competitors themselves took place on the Internet. The final selection is made by the jury appointed by the Chamber of Architects, UIA and the Graphic Artists Professional Institution. 

The Jury decided on the first, the second and the third prize-winning logos and in addition, five logos granted as special mansions.
