Buddhist outfit plans mass conversions of dalits 

Bangalore, Oct 3. (PTI): A Buddhist organisation today 
claimed it was mobilising two lakh Dalits to give up 
Hinduism and embrace Buddhism at a function here on 
October 14, the day Babasaheb Ambedkar embraced 
Buddhism 48 years ago. 

"Dalits are suffering because of the caste hierarchy in 
Hinduism. We will embrace Buddhism which will restore 
our self-respect", R A Audi, Working President of the 
committee formed for the event, told reporters here. 

He said the outfit was trying to mobilise nearly two lakh 
Dalits to become Buddhists without any coercion or 
allurements. 

Audi said various Dalit organisations, literateurs, 
intellectuals and social activists were working for the 
event. 

"Buddhism is a scientific religion that is without the 
caste system and gives equality to all", he said.
