Hi all,
I have upgraded our account to a high volume server
one. This increases our hosting costs to $75 a month
from $27 a month. However, we are currently serving
over a gig a day and our over-usage cost on our
current account is on schedule to be over $50 euro for
this month (and should hit a serious spike around
Mayday). We can always step down again if we have
much unused bandwidth after mayday.
A longer term solution would be for us to implement
some sort of load balancing for Oscailt. We set a
certain monthly/daily/weekly limit on bandwidth and if
oscailt thinks that it is using too much bandwidth in
a given period, it can either cut down on media sizes
allowed, or else start using a back up server to store
media.

Thanks for that Kino, we'll certainly take a look at
it after mayday. However, our old articles probably
use up only a very small amount of bandwidth. For the
moment we are setting up a backup media server with
IMC Scotland for Mayday, using a very similar scheme.
Cheers
