1. We already know how to COMPLETELY STOP the most common killer cancer:
lung cancer. And yet, the war on tobacco has barely been waged; more young
people are smoking than ever before, while environmental tobacco smoke
continues to kill nonsmokers at staggering rates.
2. We've all heard about the diet and cancer links. But few know the real
reason fat is linked to cancer. It is because the more fat on your body, th=
e
more fat-soluble toxins, or carcinogens, are in your body. Active living an=
d
leaner eating can dramatically reduce the likelihood of cancer.
3. A number of known and identifiable chemicals in our environment break
down into an estrogen mimic. This has led to a staggering increase in
estrogen-dependent cancers, such as breast, prostate, testicular, ovarian
and endometrial cancers. Fat also makes estrogen, which, again, is another
reason leaner frames can reduce cancer incidence.
4. Most cancer is NOT genetic. No one is genetically wired to develop cance=
r
out-of-the-blue. All so-called cancer genes are dormant at birth, and are
switched on by lifestyle and/or environmental triggers. We must stop blamin=
g
our genes for cancer, and look at the triggers that switch the genes on
instead.
5. You may need to switch professions to stop cancer at the source. Workers
in agriculture, mining, metal work and painting have five times the rate of
occupational cancers. What we know so far about occupational cancers, and
workplace carcinogens is in this book.
6. Toxicity testing does not exist in the public record for nearly 75% of
the top-volume chemicals in commercial use. In other words, we introduce
chemicals into the environment without knowing if they are dangerous. Cance=
r
activists believe all chemicals should be presumed unsafe until PROVEN safe=
.
This is known as the "Precautionary Principle" and is not yet in use in
North America.
7.The Great Lakes basin is home to some 36 million people, and is the
largest freshwater body on earth. Those who live in Ontario, Minnesota,
Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, New York, or Pennsylvania are
at risk due to several hundred contaminants in the Great Lakes basin, a
dozen of which have been identified as REALLY serious, such as PCBs and
dioxins. In terms of cancer, we are looking at higher incidences of breast,
testicular and prostate cancers due to the "estrogenic" toxins that are
rampant in Great Lakes waters. Bladder, thyroid, and colon cancer are also
elevated in these regions.
Numerous additional sources were used to update the information in the
original 1995 Report. These sources include: The Environmental Defense Fund
Occupational Hazards Reports; The Eighth Biennial Report On Great Lakes
Water Quality, Under the Great Lakes Water Quality Agreement of 1978 to the
Governments of the United States and Canada and the State and Provincial
Governments of the Great Lakes Basin, released by the International Joint
Commission in 1996. Rosenthal also cites the 1998 report entitled: A State
of Knowledge Report on the Effects of Human Health in the Great Lakes Basin=
,
published by Health Canada and the Minister of Public Works and Services in
cooperation with The Great Lakes Health Effects Program, Environmental
Health Effects Division of Health Canada.

Hello,<BR>
<BR>
I am sending the following press release to inform you of a new book on pri=
mary prevention of cancer by health author M. Sara Rosenthal entitled, STOPP=
ING CANCER AT THE SOURCE. Sara is the author of more than 20 consumer health=
books including, <I>50 Ways to Prevent Colon Cancer</I> and <I>The Breast S=
ourcebook</I>. <BR>
<BR>
This book outlines many of the environmental causes of cancer and discusses=
how the public can lobby government for change to reduce exposure to known =
carcinogens produced by industry. I hope you will review this book on your w=
ebsite, as I'm sure it will be of interest to your readers. <BR>

M. Sara Rosenthal, author of 23 consumer health books, has just released ST=
OPPING CANCER AT THE SOURCE =AD a new book that makes public for the fir=
st time, proven and scientifically based facts on the primary prevention of =
cancer.<BR>
<BR>
STOPPING CANCER AT THE SOURCE is written in plain language and outlines how=
individuals can reduce their risk of developing cancer. It also discusses m=
easures governments can implement to reduce the public's exposure to known c=
arcinogens produced by industry. <BR>
<BR>
"We cannot rely on government to protect the public from cancer,"=
says Rosenthal. "This book illustrates how the public can effectively =
lobby for changes that can improve public health, and reduce the incidence o=
f cancer."<BR>
<BR>
STOPPING CANCER AT THE SOURCE is based on recommendations that appeared in =
a unique North American report: <I>The Report of the Ontario Task Force on t=
he Primary Prevention of Cancer</I>, released in 1995. A cross-section of No=
rth American experts contributed to the Report and it contains facts that ar=
e scientifically defensible. Former Ontario Health Minister, Ruth Grier, com=
missioned the Task Force. However, after the government changed hands, only =
a few of the recommendations were ever implemented. Primary prevention of ca=
ncer is still absent from the agenda of many cancer agencies and non-profit =
groups.<BR>
<BR>
STOPPING CANCER AT THE SOURCE was originally rejected by many publishers du=
e to its controversial content. In 2000, a contract with a large Canadian pu=
blisher was cancelled just as the book was ready to go into production. They=
did not want to proceed without an endorsement from the Canadian Cancer Soc=
iety, which declined to provide one.<BR>
<BR>
"Since 1996, I have been trying to convince publishers that primary pr=
evention of cancer is a topic worth writing about. Repeatedly, they claimed =
there was 'no market' " Rosenthal says. "Cancer organizations clai=
ming to be there for the public have kept this information from them -- info=
rmation I believe to be life-saving. As a bioethicist, I believe that those =
of us =8Cin the know=B9 have a moral obligation to make this information widely =
available. Publishing this book myself is my way of being able to sleep at n=
ight. If one person can stop cancer at the source because this book, my effo=
rt will have been worth it."<BR>
<BR>
Rosenthal published the book under her own imprint, SarahealthGuides=81, a di=
vision of her health promotion website sarahealth.com. SaraheatlhGuides=81 is =
a book series she created to address rare, stigmatizing or controversial hea=
lth topics. <BR>
