Call for submissions of video or workshop proposal, deadline July 1st, 2004:
The Boston Social Forum's Media Track is seeking a very specific presentation
from the Independent Media Center movement worldwide.
Race, ethnicity, and the Independent Media Centers
(please circulate to other IMC member lists)
What are the racial mixes of IMC's around the world?
Has the predominance of whites and males in IMC's in the U.S. changed in the
five years since the first IMC in Seattle 1999?
What racial balance of contributors fills the many and varied IndyMedia
newswires? Why?
Do IndyMedia audiences' races reflect the contributors?
How has the IndyMedia movement engaged with the independent or alternative
press and broadcast media in communities of color (also known as the ethnic
press)?
Have IMC's ever organized solidarity with separate media of color in support of
their own struggles to remain independent?
What are examples of this?
How are IMC's educating our members and organizers to overcome the inherent
racism in our (especially U.S. historically) societies?
Please email immediately if you can present a workshop or video on this
