JNF HOSTS MAYOR IVES FOR TREE PLANTING AND PRIVATE TOUR
May 14, 2004 - Jerusalem - The Hon. Rosemary Ives, Mayor of Redmond,
WA, planted a tree in the Kennedy Memorial Forest in the Jerusalem
Hills today, before proceeding on a private tour of JNF projects
including American Independence Park.
Her first trip to Israel, Mayor Ives is a supporter of the 103
year-old Jewish National Fund and its work in the Holyland. When Ted
Moccia, her father, died in 1958, friends planted trees in Israel in
his memory.
JNF's Kennedy Memorial is near the neighborhood of Kiryat Menahem, It
has 51 pillars one for each state and the District of Columbia. Inside
the building is a bronze bust of the late John F. Kennedy, facing an
eternal flame, similar to the one in Arlington National Cemetery. Each
pillar bears the coat of arms of the state it represents and the 50
windows gaze on the scenery of the Jerusalem Hill and slopes covered
with more than four million trees planted by Jewish National Fund.

###
Jewish National Fund is a non-profit organization founded in 1901 to
serve as caretaker of the land of Israel, on behalf of its
owners--Jewish people everywhere. During the first half of the 20th
century, JNF set out to achieve its goal by purchasing the land that
would become the State of Israel. Following the successful
establishment of the state in 1948, the organization has evolved to
meet Israel's most pressing needs, including the current security
crisis, ongoing water shortage and other environmental challenges.
Over the past century, the organization has planted over 240 million
trees, built over 150 reservoirs and dams, developed over 250,000
acres of land, created more than 450 parks and educated students
around the world about Israel and the environment. For more
