Hi all.
I agree with joeri on having an european meeting appart from other big
events. Like the last one in bern; it showed we need more time to have a
good meeting and offcourse it should be wel prepared. To have an Indymedia
meeting means that we are not distracted by other matters that an event
will bring.
It's needed to have such an Indymedia meeting because the network is
growing and also it's getting more clear what the differences are between
the collectives. We have a big evaluation to do and that will follow with
a view on the future.
To arrange that every indymedia can take part in that it will take some
time before we can meet. Besides all the events and our personal agendas
in the near future, it's the only thing we can do to make it a valuable
gathering. So my proposal is to give it 4 to 5 months or so to be sure
that all can attent, have a good programme and if there any financial
problems we can get the money together so all can attend.
A list of topics can emerge and worked out so we have an idea what to
expect and all indymedia's can have those topics dicussed and worked out
before the european meeting.
So december or january looks more realsitic for a European meeting to get
it all goin. And offcourse indyemdia people will meet up at the several
events in the near future, and that is always very nice.
As stated in earlier discussions there is also a sugestion to split up the
eropeanmeeting in a north south kinda division. Personally I think it's a
bit to early for that yet so I 'vote' for a complete meeting with all in
the eurasian region.
The indymedia's who have been such meetings before (Brussels, Berlin and
bern) have experienced that a weekend is to short, if the meetings starts
at saturday. I want to suggest that we have a friday, a saturday and a
light meeting on the sunday. And try to get at the place of meeting on a
thursday for a 'meet and greet'.
Hopefully people find the time to think this over and look in their own
agenda's to see for a suggestion for a date.
Then a place to meet up. Vienna sounds good, but we have to check that
with Vienna and offcourse the people from the far west and north. The last
meeting we sorta missed scandinavia and that would be a great miss if they
could not attend this one.
One of the topics I would like to discuss is the
(cultural/organisational)differences between all the Indymedias in Europe,
because there are, and those differences do cause some misunderstandings
during the process of the choice of discussion toppics and on other
important stuff. This is very crucial before we decide to decentralise the
european network.
Please think about this and discuss that with in your local indymedia.
Hopefully we can set a date and an agenda within 3 months so we can work
in depth on the topics that will arrize.
In solidarity,
Lizet
