Hello Anna,

You wrote several letters about this.
I feel you are totally correct to ask with persistence,
because the US- based imc's contain a *lot* of people
with this attitude. It's the attitude of writing and
speaking with the assumption that the whole globe
operates like an extension of the United States.

Plus, they hardly ever admit it, and hardly ever
aknowledge it when being called on it. Most of them do
it without realising it, innocently, but some, a few of
them, I'm sorry to point this out, truly are infused
with imperial arrogance (or, as Phillip K. Dick wrote,
"the emoire never ended"). Someone should have answered
your question (specifically, the person who wrote the
letter), and should have taken responsibility for it.

On the specific item, yes, the letter you refer to
relates to US legislation about various classifications
of non-profit organizations.

But the more important item is the solution you
suggested: "to maybe create mailing lists such as we
have (for example imc-europe@indymedia.org ), for
topics that are u.s./north america-only". Everyone in
the Cyprus Indymedia group agrees with your suggestion,
and we hope it will help some of our colleagues from
the US to either become more in touch with reality, or
to curtail some of that arrogance.

What do our other colleagues think?
Petros
