Hi Everyone,

There's been a bit of confusion over what our latest proposal is for the
IMC Regional Gathering in Nigeria. Below is the latest proposal.

The discussion period will continue until November 28 with a
decision-deadline of Noon GMT. Thus far several question have been raised
and I wanted to thank the IMC-Nigeria and IMC-Ambazonia folks who have
done a very good job of addressing them. Please make any questions or
concerns known so that they can get addressed in a timely fashion.

In solidarity,

PROPOSAL F-2002

POSTED: November 11, 2002
by Valentine (IMC-Ambazonia) & Winters (IMC-Nigeria)
TRANSLATION: November 11-13, 2002
2 WEEK DISCUSSION PERIOD: November 14-28, 2002
(one-week discussion period extension would extend discussion to December
5, 2002)
DECISION DEADLINE: November 28, 2002; Noon GMT

SUMMARY:

$1,100 (USD) Proposal to have the global indymedia fund to support a
face-to-face meeting between members of imc-nigeria and the forming
imc-ambazonia to coincide with the visit of Jay Sand from the Philadelphia
IMC.

Details:

The IMC-Nigeria has been a well-established IMC for over a year. The
imc-ambazonia, in Cameroon, is currently forming as an essential
independent media voice there. Imc-ambazonia believes that the struggles
imc-nigeria faced and continues to face while organizing independent media
in West Africa will be similar to those imc-ambazonia will encounter, and
believe a face-to-face meeting will be the best way to have imc-nigeria
teach these lessons, and inspire organizing in Ambazonia. IMC-Nigeria and
IMC-Ambazonia are therefore applying to the imc-finance group to help
support a face-to-face meeting.

This meeting, to occur from December 5-8 in Benin City, Nigeria, will
include many discussions about topics such has how to organize an IMC in a
place where so few people have Internet access, how to raise money and
otherwise support this kind of organizing, how to run the technical
aspects of an IMC site, and how to most effectively harness the power of
Indymedia to enable independent media to blossom in West Africa. The
meeting will coincide with the visit of Jay Sand from the Philadelphia IMC
to Nigeria; he will be able to provide perspective on the global Indymedia
network.

The proposed budget $1,100 (USD) and the breakdown is as follows:
$600 To Support IMC-Ambazonia to attend Meeting.
$500 to Support IMC Nigeria to organise the meeting.

IMC-Ambazonia BUDGET Breakdown:

338 Euros requested for over-ground transportation for of three(3) persons
from Ambazonia and Cameroon to and from Benin City, Nigeria(details below)

117 Euros requested to support lodging and expenses on the way and while
there

150 Euros requested to support an Ambazonia-wide information campaign to
inform people about indymedia after the meeting.

Nigeria IMC BUDGET BREAK DOWN:

$200 Technical and Internet support for period of meeting.
$150 Local Transportation for Nigeria IMCs within Nigeria.
$150 Feeding, accommodation and other logistics for Nigeria IMC attendance.

We have proposed a discussion period of 7 days, from November 11 to
November 18. We have submitted the proposal to the
translation@lists.indymedia.org list, and will forward any translations we
receive as soon as possible. [NOTE: the timeframe has been changed to meet
our proposal guidelines. 3 days were added to allow for translation; one
week was added because the request is for over $500 (USD); the new
discussion period runs from November 14-28]

We also encourage local IMCs around the world to participate in this
proposal. We would like to encourage any local IMC to hold a fundraiser
that has a goal of raising approximately 50 Euros to go toward this
meeting. If local IMCs are able to raise money, imc-finance will have to
put less of the requested $1900 from the global fund. This will speak
well for network-wide unity, as several local IMCs will be able to
participate in supporting this regional IMC meeting.

Thank you, and we look forward to your response.
