[Imc-finance] IMC Ecuador - EMERGENCY FUNDING REQUEST - DEADLINE Oct 23

This is an emergency funding request from the Ecuador IMC for $500 from
the imc-finance global fund. It is for expenses in covering the FTAA
protests and summit which will be happening October 27th through November
3rd. The money is needed to start covering caravans from the country side
in to the city on the 23rd. I believe with emergency funds the deadline is
flexible depending on circumstances. I'm sorry for the lateness of this
request.

Esta est una peticion para fundos emergencia desde de indymedia ecuador
para $500 desde imc-finance fundo global. Para la costos sobre cubierta la
protestas y cumbre seria en Quito de Octubre 27 a Noviembre 3. La plata
necesita para comienzo cubir la caravans desde el campo al Quito en 23 de
Octobre. Creo para la fundos emergencias la plazo depende e las
circunstancias. Lo siento sobre la tardes de esto peticion.

Reciban fraternos saludos desde Indymedia Ecuador. El motivo de esta carta
es solicitarles un apoyo urgente al Fondo de Emergencia de Indymedia Global=
=2E

Como es de su conocimiento, a finales de octubre y principios de noviembre,
se reunir=E1n en Quito, Ecuador ministros y empresarios de todas las Am=E9r=
icas
(menos Cuba). Las organizaciones, redes y colectivos del pa=EDs est=E1n
organizando eventos de protesta, desde contra-cumbres hasta acciones callej=
eras. Estos
esfuerzos forman parte de una lucha global en contra del neoliberalismo y
espec=EDficamente en contra del ALCA.

El colectivo de Indymedia Ecuador se form=F3 hace pocos meses. En este
momento, somos entre 8 y 10 personas fijas, con otra gente m=E1s que van y =
vienen.
Para las movilizaciones, estamos recibiendo activistas de Indymedia de
diferentes pa=EDses y colectivos como del Per=FA, Bolivia, Brasil, Suiza, N=
ueva York y
California, entre otros, para dise=F1ar una estrategia de cobertura de los
acontecimientos desde abajo.

A tan solo dos semanas de las movilizaciones (las cuales en realidad
arrancaron el 12 de octubre con el Grito de l@s Excluid@s y que siguen con =
las
marchas y caravanas de las provincias a partir del 23 de octubre), nos hemo=
s dado
cuenta de la grave situaci=F3n econ=F3mica del Indymedia Ecuador frente a l=
a
cobertura de las movilizaciones. En efectivo, nuestra falta de experiencia =
en
organizar una cobertura de este estilo y todo lo que esto implica (centro d=
e
comunicaci=F3n, equipos t=E9cnicos, materiales de oficina, celulares, etc.)=
, ha
resultado en que no hemos podido prever todos nuestros costos.

En la actualidad, nuestras capacidades econ=F3micas son bien limitadas y el
=FAnico recurso con que contamos proviene de la donaci=F3n a Indymedia Lati=
na. Es
decir, tenemos $340 que ten=EDa que ser destinado a la compra de equipos pa=
ra
Indymedia Ecuador. Si utilizamos toda esta plata para cubrir las
movilizaciones, nos quedamos sin un peso.

No obstante, en este momento ya contamos con una oficina alquilada durante
el tiempo de la movilizaci=F3n, del 22 de octubre hasta el 2 de noviembre. =
El
espacio ser=E1 compartido con un proyecto de comunicaci=F3n de los movimien=
tos
sociales, ENLACE, lo cual busca llegar a los medios de comunicaci=F3n
tradicionales. Entre los dos proyectos, contamos con 7 computadoras con con=
exi=F3n al
Internet, 2 a 4 computadoras sin conexi=F3n, as=ED como 1 esc=E1ner, 1 impr=
esora, 1 Zip y
4 c=E1maras digitales.

A pesar de esto, que al final nos podr=EDa permitir la realizaci=F3n de la
cobertura sin demasiados problemas, a=FAn tenemos muchos costos que no sabe=
mos
cubrir, como el costo de celulares (los cuales conllevan costos astron=F3mi=
cos
muchos mayores que, por ejemplo, en los EE.UU.) para la gente que viajan en=
 las
caravanas de las provincias y para la cobertura de todos los eventos de Qui=
to.

Entre las necesidades m=E1s urgentes tenemos: celulares, tarjetas prepago p=
ara
los celulares, tarjetas de tel=E9fono convencional, rollos de foto, revelad=
os
de foto, pilas, tinta impresora, conexi=F3n internet, transporte, carn=E9s =
de
prensa entre, materiales de oficina, entre otros.

Es por esto que les escribimos para solicitar un fondo de emergencia de
Indymedia Global. Lamentamos que hemos tardado tanto en hacerles llegar nue=
stro
pedido, pero como se=F1alamos arriba, nuestra falta de experiencia en levan=
tar
un centro de comunicaci=F3n para la cobertura de las movilizaciones nos ha
colocado en una posici=F3n bastante inc=F3moda. De hecho, sin m=E1s plata n=
uestras
posibilidades ser=E1n muy limitadas.

Fraternal greetings from Indymedia Ecuador! We are writing in order to
solicit urgent support from the Emergency Fund of Global Indymedia.

As you know, at the end of October and the beginning of November, ministers
and businessmen from throughout the Americas (except Cuba) will meet in
Quito, Ecuador. The organizations, networks and collectives of the country =
are
organizing events of protest, from counter-summits to actions in the street=
s.
These efforts form part of the global struggle against neoliberalism, and
specifically the FTAA.

The Ecuador Indymedia Collective was formed just a few months ago. At this
time, we are between 8 to 10 permanent volunteers, with others who come and
go. For the mobilizations, we are receiving Indymedia activists from differ=
ent
countries and collectives such as Peru, Bolivia, Brazil, Switzerland, New
York and California, among others, in order to design a strategy of media
coverage from below.

With just two weeks remaining before the mobilizations (which actually bega=
n
on the 12th of October and will continue on the 23rd of October with the
beginning of the caravans and marches in the different provinces of the
country), we have realized how dire the economic situation of Ecuador Indym=
edia if we
are to cover the mobilizations. Effectively, our lack of experience in
organizing this type of coverage and everything that it implies (communicat=
ions
center, technical equipment, office supplies, cell phones, etc.) has result=
ed
in the fact that we did not foresee the costs we face.

As of right now, our economic capabilities are extremely limited and the
only financial resource that we have is the money donated to the collective=
s of
Latin America. In other words, we only have the $340 that was to be used fo=
r
the purchase of equipment. If we use this money to cover the mobilizations,
we are going to wind up penniless following the protests.

Nevertheless, we already have a space rented out for the coverage of the
mobilization, which will be in permanent use from the 22nd of October to th=
e 2nd
of November. The space will be shared with a project launched by different
national organizations called ENLACE, which attempts to inform the traditio=
nal
press regarding the mobilizations. Between the two projects, we have 7
computers with an internet connection, 2 to 4 computers without connection,=
 1
scanner, 1 printer, 1 Zip-drive and 4 digital cameras.

In spite of this equipment, which could permit us to cover the
mobilization without too many problems, we still have many costs that we
don't know how to cover, such as the cost of cell phones (which have
astronomical costs, much more so than in the US) for the people who are
going to be traveling in the caravans of the province as well as for the
coverage in Quito.

Among our most urgent necessities, we have: cell phones, pre-paid cards for
the cell phones, telephone cards, rolls of film, the development of photos,
batteries, ink for printers, connection to the internet, transportation, pr=
ess
i.d.s, office supplies, among others.

It is therefore that we write in order to solicit funding from Global
Indymedia. We are very sorry that we have taken so long to send you our req=
uest,
but as we said before, our lack of experience in the putting together of a
media center for the coverage of the mobilizations has left us in a very
uncomfortable position. In fact, without more funding we are going to be ve=
ry limited
in our media possibilities.
